Axel Kicillof asked to leave the internal conflict with Kirchnerism "for later" and join forces to stop Milei.

Having overcome another formal step in the attempt to achieve unity within Peronism following Saturday's party congress , Axel Kicillof, as governor of Buenos Aires Province, called for internal differences to be put aside "for after" the elections in order to facilitate negotiations for the formation of a joint front with Kirchnerism, the Frente Renovador (Renewal Front), and other allies of the party.

Beyond the signs of an agreement, both at the meeting in Merlo and in Kicillof's post, a number of issues remain to be resolved for it to materialize in a context of tension and conflicting mistrust with two key dates : the deadline for submitting alliances is Wednesday, and 10 days later—Saturday the 19th—the deadline for candidacies will be reached.

“The PJ Congress of the province took a very important step: it was collectively agreed to consolidate a broad front that, in the upcoming legislative elections, will act as a shield and put a stop to the chainsaw that is currently destroying rights and dreams in our province and throughout Argentina,” Kicillof began his post, in which he did not speak of “unity” but rather of “joining forces” to stop the Javier Milei government and the effects of its policies.

At the meeting of congressmen in Merlo, the provincial president's representatives agreed with the sector aligned with Cristina Kirchner to appoint two leaders from each side to finalize the formation of the coalition, ensuring the "strict impartiality of representation" of each group. In addition to Máximo Kirchner as head of the Buenos Aires PJ (Party of the People's Party), the mayors Federico Otermín of Lomas and Mariel Fernández of Moreno will be on his side. Kicillof appointed Vice Governor Verónica Magario and Minister Gabriel Katopodis.

“We know that within Peronism there are different perspectives on the failed experience of the FdT national government and on the path forward to repair that disappointment. These debates will continue: they are inevitable and necessary. However, today there is an urgency that surpasses any differences or disputes,” the Buenos Aires governor continued, referring to the call from activists and workers to “work together.”

In the text, Kicillof included Cristina Kirchner's conviction on a "long and obscure" list of criticisms of Milei's authoritarianism and defended her administration in the province with the slogan of "shield and net," as a contrast to the national administration's austerity measures, the halt to public works, and the government's "desertion" in fulfilling its obligations.

In closing, the governor called for "putting aside differences for later and organizing the protection of the people of Buenos Aires," and described this phase as the "first step toward the true challenge" of building the "broadest possible social and political front" ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.

Kirchnerism took the post positively, interpreting it as an acknowledgment that Peronism's leadership will not be resolved in this election , as they believed Kicillof intended. Carlos Bianco, Minister of Government and his right-hand man, had demanded as a "condition for unity" that the rest—especially targeting La Cámpora—"applaud all day" and support the ruling party's projects "without question."

" He's saying 'this is as far as I go.' Bianco's demands weren't going to work, and he's already postponing that discussion. The presidential candidate won't be decided this year. He has a stake, but it's clear he's not everyone's boss ," confirmed a Buenos Aires City official aligned with Cristina Kirchner.

Beyond these gestures of rapprochement, Kicillof will maintain his caution in preparing his own electoral structure , through a front or a party separate from the PJ (Party of the People's Party), in case the negotiations over the constitution of the proxy committee or the distribution of the lists fail. "We can't run the risk of watching the election on television," the Buenos Aires Cabinet insisted.
