Dakota Johnson receives the Karlovy Vary Festival President's Award

American actress, model, and producer Dakota Johnson received the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival President's Award on Sunday "for her fundamental contribution to the development of cinema," after being greeted with jubilation on the red carpet at the Thermal Hotel, where she signed autographs and took numerous selfies.

"I'm thrilled to be here with two films that are very close to my heart, and I hope they light a fire in people's hearts and minds because they're about love and how we treat each other and what we want for ourselves," Johnson said after accepting the award from executive director Krystof Mucha .

Johnson presented two of his latest works at the Czech festival , now in its 59th year: the love comedy ' Splitsville ' on the eve of the festival, and tonight's sentimental drama ' Materialists '.

Regarding the latter, the actress told KVIFFTV that "it's an honest representation of what people are experiencing in their relationships today, and I think it provokes a deep questioning of oneself, about what you want and really need, and love ."

Dakota Johnson received recognition for her contribution to cinema.

The Texas actress said she was proud to have worked with Celine Song , the director of ' The Materialist ,' whom she called "probably the best filmmaker of our time."

"I hope they laugh and cry and go home thinking about their lives," Johnson added about the sentimental drama .

  • Johnson, 35, daughter of actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith , cultivated a passion for dancing and modeling from a young age, and soon became a muse for fashion brands Mango and Gucci, and lingerie brand Intimissimi.

He began to play notable, albeit secondary, roles in ' The Social Network ' (2010), 'For Ellen' (2012), ' Infiltrated in class ' (2012) and in ' Cymbeline ' (2014), a modern adaptation of a Shakespeare play, in which he gained more prominence.

Her career on the big screen was influenced by her mother, Melanie Griffith , and her erotically charged roles, something her daughter emulated in 2015.

It was her turning point, because that year she released the saga ' Fifty Shades of Grey ', the first installment directed by San Taylor-Johnson and based on the erotic novel by British author EL James, a film that critics were very harsh on, but very successful at the box office.
