Inflation: How much did a family need to avoid poverty in June?

Following the release of the June inflation rate, which measured a 1.6% price change during the sixth month of the year, the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INDEC) confirmed that a family of four needed $1,128,398 to avoid poverty.
According to INDEC (National Institute of Statistics and Census), the Total Basic Food Basket (CBT), the indicator used to calculate the poverty line, increased 1.6% in June and accumulated a 10.1% increase for the year, reaching 29.2% year-on-year. The INDEC report also noted that the monthly variation in the CBT equaled the inflation rate for the month.
On the other hand, the Basic Food Basket (BFB), which measures the poverty line, rose 1.1% compared to May; therefore, a family of four needed $506,008 to avoid being destitute. In the 2025 calculation, the BFB increased 12.6%; while it accumulated 28.7% year-over-year. Both the BFB and BFB calculations used a family of four, two adults and two children, as a base.

Considering the different family configurations, household economic indicators in June were as follows: One person needed $ 365,177 to stay above the poverty line; a family of three, consisting of an adult woman, an elderly person, and a teenager, needed $ 898,336 to cover the CBT. A family of five, with two adults and three children, needed $ 1,186,826 .
Regarding extreme poverty, one person needed more than $ 163,757 to overcome this threshold; a family of three, $ 402,841 ; and a family of five had to surpass $ 532,209 . The Basic Food Basket is based on the protein and calorie requirements of an adult male between 30 and 60 years old, and varies depending on the age of the subject analyzed.
