Trump guides the election in Canada and Sheinbaum's strength

Justin Trudeau was right.

When he announced his resignation as Prime Minister of Canada on January 6, many saw him as defeated in his confrontation with Donald Trump .

It opened a waiting period for withdrawal and, we said here, it would allow his successor Mark Carney to reposition himself, who also criticized the tariff policies of the American President, of whom he said:

- The United States is no longer a reliable partner .

He did the opposite of Claudia Sheinbaum 's government, who opted for negotiation and appointed the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard , to reduce the damage to the country.

Carney stood firm against the tycoon, against his madness to make Canada the 51st state and bucked the trend against the then favorite, the conservative Pierre Poilievre .

He mobilized voters against the New Yorker's demands and, like Sheinbaum in Mexico, rallied them around him.

There, the liberals won the elections against all odds on Monday, while here the President strengthens her popularity by rejecting Trump 's impositions and his nationalist harangues.

DARKNESS INSIDE AND OUTSIDE

In other words: they are the effects of Donald Trump .

It's curious because his domestic and foreign policies are working against him: domestically, his popularity has fallen to 40-44 percent, while internationally, global rejection of his policies is growing.

The favorable effects for Mexico and Canada are not limited to these figures, as, concerned about the collapse of its image, yesterday it signed a decree expected here and for which Marcelo Ebrard worked.

With this executive decision, he removed the so-called "overlapping" tariffs, and the 25 percent tariff on automobiles will not be added to the rate applied to steel and aluminum.

This failure in just 100 days could have far-reaching consequences for the United States and Trump , and also greater benefits for Mexico and Canada, which are poised to resume their alliance with a view to renegotiating the USMCA.

A less favorable society if the right-wing Pierre Poilievre , more in line with the American president's thinking as we have pointed out here, has triumphed.

GOOD DEBATE CLAUDIA-ZEDILLO

1.- Many are scandalized by the debate between Claudia Sheinbaum and her PRI predecessor Ernesto Zedillo .

Controversies of this kind are welcome because they allow us to confront and justify positions and also to uncover truths and lies.

As a journalist, I had the opportunity to report on the creation of Fobaproa, a solution inspired by Felipe Calderón as president of the PAN to the banking crisis resulting from the so-called December error .

Meeting with several of his collaborators—led by Emilio Chuayffet in politics and José Ángel Gurría in economics— Zedillo rejected placing the debts on the banks.

"I'm against the culture of non-payment!" he resolved.

This is how the debt arose, about which Claudia Sheinbaum will continue her discourse today and, incidentally, whose payment Morena has refused to suspend so as not to look bad in front of creditors.

And 2.- It is a good thing that Televisa and Javier Tejado have decided to come forward and denounce the blackmail and extortion against their executives and public officials.

The saga will be long and will end in court, Tejado promised, because they have documents to prove the pressure, the orchestrated media campaign, and the fabrication of lies against him.
