On August 23, it was announced that Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez Jr. was linked to the process by federal judge Enrique Hernández Miranda, during a hearing at the Federal Criminal Justice Center, in Hermosillo , Sonora.

According to reports, his connection to organized crime crimes involving arms trafficking is linked. It has emerged that the boxer may have ties to the Sinaloa Cartel.

The hearing was held virtually after the defense obtained a duplicate constitutional term to define its legal status.

According to media reports, more than 20 pieces of evidence were provided corroborating Julio César's involvement in the aforementioned crime. Of the cases presented, at least nine were found to be unsubstantiated.

The judicial authority in charge of the case determined that Chávez Jr. 's proceedings will continue while he remains free , although he will not be able to leave the country unless his sports activities require it; in that case, a request will be made.

It was also decided that the next hearing will be held on November 24.

The case of Julio César Chávez Jr. has been marked by a series of recent legal and personal problems , culminating in his deportation and detention in Mexico in August. After being detained in the United States for overstaying his visa, he was deported to Mexico on August 18. Upon arriving on Mexican soil, he was immediately apprehended on an outstanding arrest warrant dating back to 2023 for alleged organized crime and arms trafficking . These accusations are linked to alleged ties to organized crime, specifically a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel .

Following his deportation and detention in Mexico, he was initially held in Cefereso Number 11 , a maximum-security prison in Hermosillo, Sonora. His recurring legal issues in the United States , including a January 2024 arrest for weapons possession, were previously channeled through a diversion program in exchange for seeking addiction treatment .
