Ceglie Messapica, a collaboration between the University of Foggia and the Rehabilitation Center begins: "It will become the most important rehabilitation center in Southern Italy."

A promise kept for the Ceglie Messapica Rehabilitation Center . The collaboration with the University of Foggia , directed by Professor Andrea Santamato , Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, officially begins today. The goal, as stated by Regional Councilor Fabiano Amati , is clear: "It will become the most important rehabilitation center in Southern Italy. The mission is to create a regional rehabilitation center and a unique awakening center in all of Southern Italy."

The collaboration, governed by Regional Council Resolution no. 1311/2025 , fully implements regional law no. 21/2024 , which established the Regional Public Hospital Rehabilitation Centre of Ceglie Messapica, managed entirely by the Brindisi Local Health Authority .

Training, research, and new rehabilitation technologies. The agreement with the University of Foggia includes advanced training and research in the fields of neurological, osteoarticular, and cardiorespiratory sciences. Classes and workshops will be held on rehabilitation robotics, new physical therapies, and innovative rehabilitation techniques. Research projects and data collection for scientific publications are also planned. Professor Santamato will serve as the center's scientific director.

Three operational units and over one hundred beds. The regional resolution consolidates and authorizes three complex operational units:

• Neurorehabilitation (40 beds);

• Physical medicine and rehabilitation (45 beds);

• Spinal unit (20 beds, under construction).

A total of 105 beds and new hires, as envisaged in the 2023-2025 Three-Year Personnel Requirements Plan.

A centre of excellence for the South With the construction of the new Awakening Centre , the Ceglie Messapica hospital is preparing to become a healthcare facility of excellence for the South, capable of combining assistance, research, training and high-tech rehabilitation .
