Udine, European capital of digital innovation

Udine and Friuli Venezia Giulia are preparing to become protagonists of a double event of national and international importance in the field of digital innovation, with a particular focus on the new generations: from September 23 to October 1, 2025, the city will host the national final of the Italian Olympiad in Informatics (OII) and the Balkan Olympiad in Informatics (BOI).
This dual event was made possible by the long-standing collaboration between AICA – the Italian Association for Informatics and Automatic Calculation – and the Ministry of Education and Merit (MIM), and the involvement of local schools, institutions, and businesses. The shared goal of promoting computer science culture and highlighting youthful excellence in digital technologies is evident.
"AICA is delighted to bring the Italian Informatics Olympiad and the Balkan Informatics Olympiad to Friuli Venezia Giulia. As a native of Udine, I am even more proud. These events are not just competitions, but workshops to prepare students for the challenges of tomorrow and build a skills-based society. For several days, Udine will become the hub of digital encounters between young talents and experts: many ICT professionals will be present to share their experiences with the students and will also bring their insights to the 61st AICA Congress, taking place on the same days, involving prestigious names from institutions, the world of education, and businesses. Over 500 people will come to Friuli Venezia Giulia, making these events also an opportunity to promote our region," comments AICA President Antonio Piva.
