Melavì, a glimmer of hope in the crisis: money for salaries released

For the permanent workers of Melavì, the fund has been requested
Sondrio – The salaries for March - and probably April - will be paid next week. A glimmer of hope in a picture that is and remains bleak for a company, the Cooperativa Melav ì, which at the end of last month announced that it had proceeded "to file a request for access to the simplified agreement for the liquidation of the assets and the subsequent cessation of the activity". Yesterday, in fact, the news was released that the Court of Sondrio has authorized a partial release of the credit lines of Banca Popolare di Sondrio Spa, previously revoked.
An “unblocking” that came close to the union meeting that took place in Tovo Sant'Agata in the morning with the workers of the Cooperativa Melaví, which resulted in the mandate given unanimously by the workers to the three territorial secretariats of the unions Flai Cgil, Fai Cisl and Uila Uil Sondrio for the proclamation of an indefinite strike starting from May 16 “in the event that by that date – the press release states – the salary for the month of March is not paid and the certain date of payment of the April salary is not provided”.
In the meantime, as regards the permanent workers of Melavì - 18 of whom 8 are workers and 10 are employees - we are still waiting for a positive outcome on the request for extraordinary redundancy payments from 1 May. Unfortunately, however, some of the workers with fixed-term contracts, 53 in total, those expiring on 30 April have already stopped their activity and so it will be for all the others, without any form of social safety net being provided for them. "Once again we underline the disappointment in seeing an important territorial economic reality with a social impact close its cooperative experience in this way - comment Ilaria Urbani (Fai-Cisl), Valter Rossi (Flai-Cgil) and Donatella Canclini (Uila-Uil) -. No longer having an identifying brand on which to channel the important production of Valtellina apples not only creates social and economic damage to the workers who will find themselves without a job but also to the image of the territory itself".
