Google to Pay Texas $1.4 Billion for Data Collected Without Consent

Google will pay Texas $1.4 billion to settle allegations that the company collected data about users without permission, the state attorney general announced Friday. In 2022, Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against Google, alleging that the web giant collected millions of biometric identifiers, including voice prints and facial geometry recordings, through its products and services such as Google Photos, Google Assistant, and Nest Hub Max.
