Banks protagonists at Piazza Affari. Mps and Mediobanca rise after the accounts

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Banca Mps Mps is rising on Piazza Affari after the publication of the accounts for the first nine months of 2025. The shares, however, have slowed down compared to the opening: starting with an increase of about 2%, they are marking an increase of half a percentage point. The institute closed the first three months of the current year with a net profit of 413 million, up 24.2% compared to the first quarter of 2024. The bank was keen to reiterate that the takeover bid on Mediobanca launched last January is continuing , despite the institute led by Alberto Nagel having in turn launched a takeover bid on Banca Generali , offering in exchange its own stake of about 13% in Generali . The industrial rationale of the operation "is potentially also consistent with the operation announced on Banca Generali", commented Rocca Salimbeni.

Intermonte commented that the numbers announced by Mps are "better than expected", in particular revenues benefited from strong trading profits and higher commissions, partly offsetting the reduction in interest margin due to the trend in the cost of money. Intermonte also appreciates the solid capital position, with a CET1 ratio of 19.6% . However, analysts, while maintaining the ' Outperform ' recommendation on the Sienese shares, indicated a target price lower than the stock market prices and equal to 7.2 euros.

Purchases also on Mediobanca, so that the stock exchange ratio between the institute's shares and those of the Sienese bank widens to 2.6 times , against Siena's proposal of 2.3 times. With the markets still closed, Piazzetta Cuccia announced the accounts for the first nine months, filed with a net profit of 993 million, up 5% . The number one Alberto Nagel returned to criticize the hypothesis of aggregation with MPS, believing that the two institutes "are two completely different stories" and also highlighted that if Mediobanca manages to conquer Banca Generali "we will have a creation of value clearly superior to the alternative that exists on the market".
