Jean-Michel Jarre in concert at the Pompeii Amphitheatre: the music of the future meets ancient history

After the incredible debut in Piazza San Marco in Venice, Jean-Michel Jarre brings his visionary show to the Amphitheatre of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii , on July 5th at 9:15 pm, for the second of two exclusive Italian concert-events. The event, included in the prestigious BOP – Beats of Pompeii program, promises a unique immersive experience, where technology, electronic music and cultural heritage merge in a spectacular dialogue.

Pompeii is not only an evocative setting, but a choice made by Jarre, an artist who has always been fascinated by the history and symbolism of the places where he performs. After playing at the Pyramids of Egypt, the Forbidden City in Beijing and the Sahara Desert, the pioneer of French electronic music arrives in one of the most iconic archaeological sites in the world, exclusively for Southern Italy .

The concert will be a mix of his most famous songs – from Oxygène to Oxymore , passing through Arpegiator – and new productions that blend sound, artificial intelligence and breathtaking visuals. In Venice, lasers were reflected on the Renaissance architecture, while the visuals – many of which were generated with the help of AI – transformed the square into a sort of living digital work. The audience, initially seated, stood up after 40 minutes, transforming the stalls into an open-air dance floor.

“Technology is not to be feared: it can be poetic and organic. Artificial intelligence is neutral, it is up to us to decide how to use it,” Jarre said on stage. “For us artists, it represents an opportunity to extend the imagination. This show was also built thanks to AI. An algorithm can almost become a friend.”

In the heart of the Amphitheatre, Jarre will bring futuristic instruments – many of which he designed himself – and a bold scenography made of laser projections, pyrotechnic effects and immersive visuals . A true “Total Opera”, to use his words, in which music and visual arts meet.

During the show in Venice, the artist paid homage to Italy and its cultural influence: “Italy is an inexhaustible source of inspiration: a country that mixes joy and melancholy, tragic and comic surrealism. It is the country of Calvino, Fellini, Morricone, Celentano… and also of the city that invented Bellini and carpaccio!”

The Pompeii concert comes after the sold out of Gianna Nannini and Dream Theater , and represents the third event of BOP 2025, the festival that unites contemporary music and places of historical and symbolic value. The festival will continue with artists of the caliber of Nick Cave, Bryan Adams, Ben Harper, Antonello Venditti, Stefano Bollani , and will end on August 5 with the spiritual folk of Wardruna .
