Nightmare as Brits trapped on train for 6 hours in heatwave ordeal

Brits were left stuck on a boiling Eurostar train after scorching heatwave temperatures caused travel problems. The six-hour disaster happened when the Eurostar service from Paris got stuck in northern France. The train left Paris at 3:55pm on Wednesday but stopped at Lille at around 5:51pm.

A technical fault was triggered on the train due to extreme temperatures. Passengers were on their way back to London but instead they ended up stuck for hours.

GB News reports that Eurostar said the soaring heat had led to a mechanical failure. The heatwave has impacted the UK and Europe, with scorching temperatures recorded - some even breaking records.

The train was reportedly extremely hot after the air conditioning failed and operators did not let the passengers onto the platform.

Passengers were trapped onboard as the engineers tried to fix the fault which lasted for around five hours.

The cooling system cut out intermittently, leaving passengers increasingly uncomfortable, reports GB News.

Eurostar staff handed out bottles of water and later gave out Kit Kats, with staff telling them food supplies had run out.

One British passenger told The Sun: “They tried to fix it for a couple of hours. Then they told us they were sending a new train. They wouldn't let us off to stretch our legs.”

Eurostar arranged a replacement service, but the rescue operation was hit by another failure when signalling equipment south of Lille also succumbed to the extreme heat.

Passengers finally resumed their journey at 10.52pm. The train eventually reached London St Pancras almost six hours late.

The rail operator has issued an apology, it said: “Eurostar teams, fully mobilised on site, assisted passengers throughout their journey and provided support.

“Tickets for affected customers will be refunded in full, and a voucher worth 150 per cent of the ticket price will be offered.

“Eurostar apologises to its customers and thanks them for their patience in these exceptional circumstances.”
