Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle: Lo Berge opens its doors, a new hotel to complement the local offering

After months of renovations, Laura Bonnet has opened Lo Berge, a ten-room hotel located on Rue Butrun. The establishment has just been awarded three stars.

Laura Bonnet has regained the smile she had two years ago behind the bar at HB Kafé in Ibarron. At 38, and after two years spent in what she calls "a professional fog," she's now at the helm of Lo Berge, a hotel on Butrun Street, completely renovated in four months.

Opened on July 20, the establishment, which for many years housed the annex of the Arocena Hotel, offers its guests six double rooms and four equipped studios. They will all have access to a double communal kitchen and a large, welcoming room where breakfast will also be served. The opportunity to purchase the building presented itself a year and a half ago. The building had been unused for many years when it was put on the market in January 2024. Its only possible use in this area remained as a hotel. Financing to meet this investment (€450,000) took a long time to come through at the end of the year... with the banking requirement to open for the 2025 season.

The race against time began in early March, when it wasn't uncommon to see the future owner handling a shovel and a cement mixer. "Either we go for it or we give up, Laura. I chose the first option. We demolished the partitions on both floors, redesigned the layout of the rooms, installed air conditioning, and equipped the double kitchen area on the ground floor. The local craftsmen helped me a lot, and their investment was invaluable."

Mission accomplished four months later, when the safety commission gave it the green light. The icing on the Basque cake was just learning that its hotel had been classified as a three-star hotel. Lo Berge thus officially completes a local overnight stay offering close to 150 beds, a new adventure for Senpertar in a setting it wanted to be human-sized, family-friendly, and cozy. The warm interior design validates this desire, as does the airy outdoor terrace, which opens onto the green setting of the Parc des Berges.
