PSG-Tottenham: Paris launches its season without real preparation
A few years ago, Raphaël Varane, 2018 world champion with the French national team, compared professional football to a "washing machine" . An analogy that the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) players would not deny. To continue the metaphor, after the draining – those three weeks of vacation that followed their defeat in the Club World Cup final against Chelsea (0-3), on July 13 –, Luis Enrique's men, wrung out, launch a new cycle on Wednesday, August 13, against Tottenham in the European Super Cup, before returning to Ligue 1, against Nantes, on the 17th.
A month ago today, the team came to a sad end to a glorious run, culminating in a 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League final on May 31. The 2024-2025 season has been, for the players, the coach and his staff, as long and trying as it is historic. "We're very tired. We've played a lot of games," said Gianluigi Donnarumma, PSG's Italian goalkeeper – left out of the squad for Wednesday's match – on June 23, after the group stage of the Club World Cup.
