Marc de Rougemont, a former international rugby player who sails on a pointu

Prop Christian Califano and former hooker Marc de Rougemont, aka "Rouge," bought a pointu, a traditional Mediterranean boat, together two years ago. The two friends from the former Red and Black front row of the RCT named their boat the Drakkar .

"I am passionate about the sea and this type of boat that is so local to us, a maritime heritage that must be preserved," explains Marc de Rougemont, who today holds the position of sports instructor in the town of La Seyne-sur-Mer and who continues to share his passion for oval sports with US Seynoise as a volunteer instructor for the U8 category (under eight years old).

"Christian is also involved in the protection of marine fauna and flora with his association Proseatech ," explains the former rugby player. "He holds a university diploma in biomonitoring of Mediterranean marine ecosystems through scuba diving. Having this expertise together allows us to maintain our bond of friendship. With all our busyness, we can quickly lose that connection."

Transmission at the heart of passions

"So I am one of the thirty members of the Pointus Bandolais association which organizes events like the last Valse des Capians (from May 29 to June 1) with its regattas and the boarding of the public for the tour of the island of Bendor. We welcomed around five hundred people," continues the "boss" (pilot who holds the helm) of the Drakkar .

Last Wednesday, with the other pointus bosses – Max, Christian, Dominique and "Fifi" – Marc welcomed his kids from the Seyne rugby school: "During the short boat trip in the bay, we explained to them that this work boat was used for fishing but also to transport gas to the lighthouses before electricity was developed," says the educator at heart.
