Drug trafficking: Parliament definitively adopts the new law

The bill to combat drug trafficking was finally adopted by Parliament on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. This was a success for the government, whose bill received broad support from MPs. Only a few left-wing MPs voted against the law.

Parliament finally adopted a long-awaited bill to combat drug trafficking on Tuesday, April 29, a success for the government and the Gérald Darmanin-Bruno Retailleau duo, who received broad support from MPs.

The National Assembly approved the text by 396 votes to 68, with only La France Insoumise voting against, as well as the former Insoumis party within the Ecologist and Social group, and four Communists. The Socialists voted in favor, while the majority of the Ecologists and Communists abstained. The Senate unanimously approved the text on Monday, despite the Ecologists' abstention.
