Burgundy. Bone marrow: a call for donors

On the occasion of the 11th World Bone Marrow Donor Day, which will be held on Saturday, September 20, the Biomedicine Agency is launching a call for mobilization to recruit new “Life Watchers,” voluntary bone marrow donors registered in the national register.
"This French registry of voluntary bone marrow donors recently reached the symbolic milestone of 400,000 registered members," the Biomedicine Agency said in a press release. "This is an encouraging figure, but one that must continue to grow to better meet the needs of patients with serious blood diseases (e.g., leukemia, sickle cell disease, aplastic anemia, etc.) each year in France."
In 2024, 1,270 new donors registered on the register, 62% of them men, for the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. To meet recruitment targets, an additional 436 new donors are being actively sought this year in the region. Hence the call for mobilization. The conditions for becoming a donor are as follows: be in perfect health; be aged 18 to 35; go to www.dondemoelleosseuse.fr to answer a medical questionnaire and take a biological sample (saliva sample or blood test during final registration) which will determine the biological identity card of the future donor.
Please note that although registration is restricted to people aged 18 to 35, those registered can donate up to the age of 60.
