Infidelity: Ranking of the countries where people cheat on their partners the most

Infidelity, long considered a taboo subject, remains a very real reality in romantic relationships around the world. While the reasons vary, the conclusion remains the same: many couples face this type of betrayal. But some countries ( and even very specific cities ) seem much more inclined than others to cross the line into cheating . A recent international study conducted by Bedbible Research Center (a site that focuses primarily on sexuality) lifts the veil on the countries where cheating is most common, and the results, particularly in France, might surprise you. Discover the ranking of the 10 most unfaithful countries in the world at the end of the article.
Figures on infidelity in the worldIn 1960, only 5% of people reported having cheated on their partner. Today, that figure has almost fivefold increased to 23%, according to a study published in 2024 by Bedbible. Infidelity also appears to be more common among men: 21% of them admit to having cheated on their current partner, compared to 7% of women.
What are the signs of infidelity? The signs of infidelity are numerous and unique to each individual. However, several main reasons tend to account for a large proportion of these betrayals. Our colleagues at Medisite interviewed Sébastien Garnero, psychologist, psychotherapist, sexologist, and hypnotherapist, to learn more about the causes of this phenomenon.
- A connection in your relationship is on the wane
After many happy years as a couple, or sometimes even before, a feeling of disconnection, mainly linked to routine, can become more pronounced. While this isn't something to worry about, "a lack of sexual activity doesn't bode well," the expert confirms. This lack of connection can be a catalyst for some people to become "emotionally and sexually involved elsewhere."
With age or throughout their lives, some people develop low self-esteem. "These adulterous people turn to these relationships to prove their worth or desirability," confirms psychologue.net . The specialist website recommends consulting a professional psychologist in this situation.
- Midlife Crisis
As we age, we all go through different phases of self-reflection, often linked to major life milestones. Among these, the midlife crisis is one of the most psychologically significant. It can lead to impulsive behaviors, including infidelity, which is then perceived as an attempt to reconnect with a past youth or to fill a sense of emptiness, as if trying to make up for "lost time."
Excuses that vary between women and menAccording to bebdible, the motives for cheating vary between sexes. For women, infidelity is often linked to a lack of attention or emotional connection within the relationship. Others report cheating because they felt neglected or unappreciated by their partner. For some, the temptation simply arose during a moment of doubt or confusion about their relationship. Attraction to another person or boredom in the existing relationship are also among the main reasons cited.
For men, the motivations are slightly different. The primary reason cited is physical attraction to another person, followed closely by the direct influence of that person, which may have convinced them to commit the act. Here too, confusion regarding their partner plays a role, but more concrete factors such as sexual dissatisfaction or a lack of intimacy are also highlighted. Finally, just as with women, the need for attention and recognition can also push them to infidelity.
