Heat this weekend: 25 degrees will be reached or exceeded in these departments

According to Météo France, from today until Sunday evening, almost all of France will enjoy beautiful sunshine . From Friday, the yellow thunderstorm alert will be lifted in the southwest, which has been particularly wet in recent days , and on Saturday in the southeast. Better still: not only should the wind be imperceptible almost everywhere all weekend , not exceeding 20 km/h, and temperatures, which had dropped on Thursday, May 15, will rise everywhere . They will be almost summery in some departments. They could even be "rather high for the season."

A little rain this Friday in the southeast

The Ines depression, which is disrupting the dolce vita in southern Italy, is expected to cause thunderstorms in places in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region (Bouches-du-Rhône, Alpes-Maritimes, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Var). But the episode should end "by late afternoon." Then, the high pressure system protecting the rest of the country will settle over the Riviera and inland, up to the mountains . This precipitation will cause temperatures to drop, before a rise is expected from Saturday.

Little grayness and early heat

The high pressure system that will give us a radiant weekend is located between Scotland and Iceland. While it is causing "low-pressure conditions over central Europe," it has the grace to spare us for these two days, "for once," some will say . Only a few gray skies will veil the morning between Normandy and the border with Belgium on Saturday morning, or clouds, mainly at altitude, in the east. Be careful, Météo France is predicting a risk of thunderstorms in the southern Alps that same day, late in the afternoon. While the north of the country should not experience any significant change in temperatures compared to the week, the south will mostly benefit from a few extra degrees, which will take it above seasonal norms, including Sunday.

A rare occurrence even with climate change, Météo France points out that the north of the country is marked by a long period of drought. The city of Dunkirk, for example, " showed a cumulative total of 0 millimeters over the first half of May, which is remarkable." It has not experienced "significant precipitation since April 24th." But this is not a first. The same phenomenon had already lasted "32 days between March 14th and April 14th." And contrary to popular belief (think of Danny Boon's film Welcome to the Sticks ), this is not uncommon. Judge for yourself:

  • 45 days without rain from March 22 to May 5, 2007;
  • 42 days without rain from April 7 to May 18, 2022;
  • 41 days without rain from February 13 to March 25, 1953;
  • 36 days without rain from March 19 to April 23, 2017 and from March 21 to April 25, 2002*.

But let's get back to our heatwave. Discover in pictures the departments where temperatures will reach or exceed 25°C this weekend.
