Agathe's death: what this broken object could have revealed

Agathe's death: what this broken object could have revealed

Since April 10, 2025, the date on which Agathe Hilairet , 28, was last seen during a morning jog, the gendarmes of the Poitiers research section have been using all leads to try to understand the circumstances of her death.

His mobile phone, worn on his wrist, made it possible to determine a final location zone between “Les Grands Ormeaux” and “Le Champ Salaud”, as specified by the Poitiers prosecutor, quoted by La Dépêche .

A discovery that reopens all the avenues

On May 5, Agathe's body was discovered in a wooded area that had already been searched by search teams . Gendarmerie General Jacques Morel, a guest on BFMTV , did not hide his astonishment at this discovery: "It seems strange to me, given the resources deployed. The tracking teams had her clothes, and the area had been combed quickly after her disappearance," he confided.

The position of the body and, above all, the absence of certain personal belongings cast a veil of mystery over the circumstances of the case. "The autopsy conducted today has not yet determined the cause of death. Several additional analyses are underway to continue the investigation," the magistrate said, without mentioning any possible traces of violence or assault.

His broken smartwatch

Another of the young woman's accessories is also in the investigators' sights: her smartwatch . As luck would have it, the accessory was broken at the time of her disappearance . Without this device, often used by joggers to track their route, investigators were unable to obtain her heart rate, precise route, or stopping time . All these elements could have helped reconstruct the young woman's final moments.

Furthermore, the fact that the phone, which records her run for the Strava app, logged for several hours without any calls coming through also intrigues investigators . "She regularly went out on her own, which she published on her Strava account, a social network for running," reports La Dépêche. While a fainting spell or a fall has been considered, certain clues, including the state of her body, seem incompatible with a death that occurred as early as April 10.

An investigation is still ongoing

Despite the discovery of the body , investigators are at an impasse. While the suicide theory seems to be receding, the possibility of a criminal act seems to be getting closer. Several witnesses have reported the presence of a "shady individual" in the area on the day of his disappearance .

In the absence of data from a GPS watch or other connected devices, law enforcement is now relying on more traditional methods: gathering witness statements, forensic analysis, using social media, and verifying material items seized from the young woman's home.
