Subsidies for home solar panels in Colombia: What do I need to apply?

The Antioquia Family Compensation Fund (Comfama), in partnership with the National Government, is promoting the installation of solar panels for homes in vulnerable areas. What are the requirements to qualify for the subsidy?

The main objective of this initiative is to facilitate access to clean energy for residents of this department, while also having an impact on the value of their utility bills. According to Tiempo, in response to this situation, it indicated that these programs are aimed at people with their own residence in strata 1, 2, and 3. "This benefit is available exclusively to members with rates A or B, that is, those whose income does not exceed four minimum wages," they point out.

What are Comfama's requirements?

To be eligible for this subsidy you must meet the following requirements: 1- Be affiliated with Comfama (Rate A or B). 2- Have your own home on Antioquia soil.

3- The electrical grid must be in good condition, and there must also be an appropriate space for installing the panels. Unfortunately, those who do not own a home or live outside of Antioquia will be excluded. What are the benefits of these solar kits?

According to the aforementioned media outlet, these panels have a useful life of at least 20 years. There are also possibilities to sell surplus energy back to the EPM grid, and your energy consumption will be significantly reduced, at least 25% less than what you currently pay.

Remember that "the registration process, technical feasibility, allocation, installation, certification, and commissioning of solar kits can take approximately 6 to 12 months, depending on the time of registration, the location of the home, and the logistics and schedule planned by the operators installing the systems. The program is subject to resource availability," the Compensation Fund stated.
