The UCI suspends enduro cyclist Edgar Carballo for one year for sexual harassment.

The International Cycling Union (UCI) Ethics Commission, a body that acts independently of the International Federation's administration, has decided to ban enduro cyclist Edgar Carballo González for one year for sexual harassment of a fellow rider. The organization has revoked the Canary Islander's license after responding to the complaint filed by the victim months ago through the UCI's confidential platform, UCI SpeakUp , in which the cyclist alleged an incident of a sexual nature that occurred in her van during the Enduro World Cup event in Leogang (Austria) in June 2023.
Although cyclist Ares Masip never mentioned the name of her alleged attacker, after learning of the UCI's ruling on Monday, she posted a video on social media in which she admitted to having gone through a "tough process, full of fear and doubt." After referring to the sanction issued by the UCI, Masip asserted that it was "a small victory" and that the legal process is not over. "It's slow, but it keeps moving forward. Now that I've broken my silence, I won't take a step back," she concluded.
The cyclist also explained on social media nine months ago that a fellow rider entered her RV and got into her bed naked. "He covered my mouth, grabbed my arms, and kept telling me he was going to rape me while he tried to undress me," she said at the time. On December 4, a year after the incident and after trying to move on, Masip learned of another rider who had experienced the same thing with the same attacker and decided to report him publicly and inform the UCI.
Now, the entity, after carrying out the protocol's phases—interviews with both parties, presentation of evidence, and statements from witnesses and other victims—has concluded that the non-consensual sexual acts reported by Masip violated her dignity and constituted sexual harassment. This forces Edgar Carballo , who has not yet commented on the matter, to step aside for at least a year.
