Spain wants to host the 2029 Club World Cup and hopes for a deal with Saudi Arabia, which is also in the running.

Beyond the heat and storms, the first Super World Cup for clubs , with packed venues at the most important matches and in major cities, is attracting the attention of several federations willing to organize the next one, planned for 2029. And Spain is in the fight. Rafael Louzán , president of the RFEF , has participated in various meetings held in Miami with FIFA and the federations over the last week and expressed his support for hosting the tournament. Of course, he is not alone: Saudi Arabia , in the foreground, and Brazil and Morocco at a lower level have also joined the fight to hold the edition in four years.

It's important to remember that the hosting of the Club World Cup has nothing to do with the organization of the World Cup for international teams, unlike the former Confederations Cup , which was linked to the hosting of the World Cup. These are independent elections, although the US was the host country for the former. The good relations between Gianni Infantino and Donald Trump accelerated the American choice, with Saudi Prince Bin Salman as the key economic figure.

FIFA 's close relationship with the Saudis, the Saudi government's insistence on organizing events to promote its famous " Vision 2030, " and the country's economic power, the main investor in this first Club World Cup, make it a strong candidate.

Optimism in Las Rozas

The Spanish Football Federation, for its part, wants to shift its policy on organizing football events, something Louzán made clear in his meetings in Miami. The country is on track to host two World Cups for national teams, one of them shared with Morocco and Portugal, but it hasn't hosted major tournaments for several decades. The new president intends to change that.

The good relations between Spain and Saudi Arabia, consolidated through the Spanish Super Cup and the management of the 2030 and 2034 bids, are causing optimism in Las Rozas. Spain's goal is to accelerate the process and negotiate for both countries to secure the 2029 and 2033 Club World Cups.

The Club World Cup in the United States had 12 venues , a similar number to that offered by Spain for the 2030 World Cup, 63 matches across the country and 32 teams spread across various auxiliary venues, something that also does not pose a problem for Spanish football facilities, which are superior, for example, to those in Morocco.

The RFEF's interest is clear, and it would also serve as a starting point for the 2030 World Cup to test the logistics they would implement the following summer. The United States is also taking this approach.

The race, however, will not be easy. In addition to Saudi Arabia and Spain, Brazil and Morocco are also in the running to host it, and like Louzán, they were emphatic during last week's meetings: they want the tournament. Brazil hosted the 2014 World Cup and the 2013 Confederations Cup, and the president of its federation, Samir Xaud , wants to add a positive point after being chosen to succeed Ednaldo Rodrigues, the visible head of the 'canarinha' until a few weeks ago. " We are willing to host that World Cup and we will work to make it possible," he said.

Morocco 's desire, announced by Marca and confirmed by this newspaper, has surprised the Spanish Federation and once again highlights some of the contradictions and problems that have arisen in the 2030 World Cup bid. The North African country continues to fight to host the final of the World Cup it shares with Spain, despite the fact that the RFEF assumes it will be on Spanish soil, waiting to decide between the Bernabéu and the Camp Nou , and has now also shown its intention to bid for the Club World Cup. Its logistical and financial capacity seems inferior, but in today's football anything is possible.
