Alex Palou, the conqueror: the Spaniard wins his fourth IndyCar title in five years.

With four titles in five years and the last three consecutively, the Spaniard Álex Palou ( Chip Ganassi ) extended his empire in IndyCar this Sunday , where he is already considered one of the best drivers in history .

Only five drivers have achieved at least four IndyCar championships until now : AJ Foyt (seven titles), the still active Scott Dixon (six) and Mario Andretti, Sebastien Bourdais and Darío Franchitti (four each).

Furthermore, only three had achieved at least three titles in a row : Ted Horn (1946, 1947 and 1948), Franchitti (2009, 2010 and 2011) and Bourdais (2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007).

That is the extraordinary magnitude of what Palou achieved in the United States and, with his title sealed in Portland this Sunday, which joins those of 2021, 2023 and 2024, culminated a season of absolutely incontestable and overwhelming dominance .

There are still two rounds left to complete the 2025 IndyCar campaign, but the Catalan driver wasted no time in securing the championship this Sunday with a third place finish in Portland before even hitting the tracks in Milwaukee and Nashville .

A good example of Palou's tremendous competitive instinct and sharp fang inside the single-seater is that, even knowing that he had the crown guaranteed with the Mexican Pato O'Ward ( Arrow McLaren ) far behind in Portland, he continued fighting for victory in this race until the end.

A total of 15 races have been held this season, and no fewer than eight have ended with Palou winning the trophy . He has also been a driving force in qualifying, with five pole positions.

There were very few challenges left for Chip Ganassi's number 10, but without a doubt the most special moment of the year was when he won the iconic Indianapolis 500 ( the first Spaniard to achieve such a feat ) and in the process won his first oval race of his career.

At 28 years old, Palou has flirted with Formula One in the past without being able to make the jump, despite his undeniable quality , experience and poise behind the wheel .

But he still has some challenges on the horizon to continue making IndyCar history, such as the all-time record for wins in a single season.

He now has eight victories, while the all-time IndyCar record is held by AJ Foyt in 1964 (winning 10 of 13 races) and Al Unser in 1970 (winning 10 of 18 races).
