MEXICO CITY (apro).- In a letter addressed to the Salvadoran embassy in Mexico, the Foreign Ministry told Nayib Bukele's government that "there is no evidence" that the plane loaded with 427 kilos of cocaine intercepted on July 3 in Tecomán, Colima, originated in El Salvador, nor that "any person from that country was linked to the incident."

"We appreciate the clarification," Bukele said on social media, where he posted the letter from the Undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Foreign Ministry.

With this, he concluded the controversy that pitted him against the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, who had stated on July 8 that the aircraft had departed from the Central American country. Bukele denied it and summoned his ambassador to Mexico to deliver a "verbal note" to the Mexican government the following day.

In the letter, the Foreign Ministry cited the "clarifications" García Harfuch posted on social media, where he reported that the three detainees are Mexican nationals and that the aircraft was detected "200 kilometers south of San Salvador, El Salvador."

"The Ministry (of Foreign Affairs) regrets the events of July 8 and states that there is no evidence that the flight of said aircraft originated in El Salvador, nor that any person from that country was linked to the incident."

We appreciate the clarification.

We hope the media outlets and journalists who reported this news will issue a corresponding correction. pic.twitter.com/OKHYLCryhn
