PAN senators support Lilly Téllez after criticism for seeking Trump's support against drug trafficking.

MEXICO CITY (apro).- The PAN parliamentary group in the Senate supported legislator Lilly Téllez, following her criticisms and opinions against various Morena actors, including President Claudia Sheinbaum.
The PAN senator gave an interview to a US television station in which she expressed her welcome for "help" from US President Donald Trump in combating cartels in Mexico. The statement was criticized by President Claudia Sheinbaum and the national leader of Morena, Luisa María Alcalde.
In a statement, the PAN senators expressed their solidarity with Senator Lilly Téllez in response to what they called the "attacks and disparagement" she has received for exercising her right to freedom of expression.
"The Parliamentary Group of the National Action Party in the Senate expresses its strongest solidarity with Senator Lilly Téllez in the face of the recent attacks and discrediting she has received for exercising her legitimate right to freedom of expression. In National Action, we firmly defend the democratic principles that underpin our institutional life, including freedom of thought, conscience, and speech.
"No popular representative should be subjected to intimidation, censorship, or verbal abuse for expressing their ideas, especially when these are part of public debate and in the exercise of their legislative functions. No legislator may be reprimanded for their expressions," the statement states.
In the letter, they emphasize that the plurality of voices strengthens Mexico and call for unrestricted respect for Senator Lilly Téllez and all legislators who, based on their convictions, contribute to the national dialogue.
"We reiterate our commitment to defending freedoms, respecting institutions, and strengthening the rule of law. In the National Action Party, we will not allow attacks against those who bravely speak out in defense of Mexico to become normalized," they conclude.
