Apple is reportedly testing Google's AI to power Siri.

Even though there's less than a week left until we unveil the new iPhone 17 family , it's well known that Apple isn't in a good place when it comes to artificial intelligence. While companies like OpenAI and Google are making progress with their AI-powered assistants and search engines, the Cupertino company continues to lag behind with Siri.
Its major update for Siri, planned for early 2025, has already been postponed to 2026, but the company has been forced to seek outside help to avoid losing further ground. These include OpenAI , and now there's talk of a possible deal with Google.
Apple is reportedly testing integrating Google's Gemini AI into Siri.According to Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman, the company with the bitten apple is reportedly testing the integration of Gemini's AI technology into its Siri assistant. The goal is to incorporate a more powerful web search tool that can compete with current systems.
This wouldn't affect Siri, but could extend to other iPhone features , such as Safari or the Spotlight search that appears on the home screen. They claim that if this comes to fruition, the future experience in Apple's search interface would be enhanced with text, images, videos, and local recommendations , in addition to AI-generated summary functions.
They add that it would also be designed to access users' personal data and thus have more fluid control via voice , which is crucial for the Cupertino-based assistant to begin to regain ground and become relevant again in an environment where its most direct rivals continue to advance.
