New air connection between Guatemala and Bogotá: What does this Central American destination have to offer?

Increasingly, Colombian travelers are seeking nearby, authentic, and historic destinations. A few weeks ago, Wingo announced a new offering: direct flights between Bogotá and Guatemala City , a connection that promises to facilitate low-cost access to one of Central America's most diverse and fascinating destinations.

Starting October 27, the airline will operate three weekly flights—Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays —allowing travelers to fly nonstop from Bogotá to Guatemala, a country that combines history, natural landscapes, cultural richness, and a cuisine steeped in ancestral identity.
According to the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT), 39,000 Colombians visited the country during the first half of 2025, representing a 9 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
“Colombia is one of our main source markets in South America: in 2024, we will welcome more than 58,000 Colombian visitors , and in the first few months of 2025 alone, we will have surpassed 25,000. This new connection will make it easier for more travelers to discover the natural, cultural, and culinary treasures that Guatemala offers the world,” said Harris Whitbeck, Director General of the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT).

Jorge Jiménez, Wingo's Vice President of Sales and Planning, stated: "We are very excited to launch this new route to Guatemala City. For Wingo, continuing to connect Colombia with the region not only boosts tourism but also expands travel opportunities for Colombians, with competitive fares and a reliable experience from start to finish."
The charm of Guatemala The route connects Colombians with Guatemala City, a point from which travelers can immerse themselves in one of the continent's richest cultures. The modern and vibrant city offers museums, public art, and a surprising nightlife , but it's also a jumping-off point for gems like Antigua Guatemala, a colonial city declared a World Heritage Site; Lake Atitlán, located in a volcanic crater and surrounded by indigenous villages; and Tikal National Park, the cradle of the Mayan civilization.
Guatemalan cuisine is another of the country's great attractions. Dishes such as pepián, considered one of the most traditional stews, kak'ik (a red turkey broth of Mayan origin), and chuchitos , a local version of tamale made with corn dough, stuffed with meat, and wrapped in dried corn husks, are part of a cuisine with indigenous and mestizo roots.
Likewise, several local products are renowned, such as high-altitude coffee, artisanal chocolate, and desserts made with corn, plantain, and cinnamon—a must-try for anyone visiting Guatemala. For the Colombian traveler, this offering represents a fusion of familiar yet exotic flavors , perfect for exploring everything from popular markets to signature restaurants.

Furthermore, this new air connection arrives just in time for Guatemala's main tourist seasons, such as the Giant Kite Festival in November, held in Sumpango and Santiago Sacatepéquez , an ancient tradition steeped in symbolism. It also coincides with the dry season between November and April, ideal for exploring the volcanoes, lakes, and archaeological ruins that characterize the country.
With a duration of approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes, non-stop, and at a low cost, Colombians will be able to visit a country that offers a unique combination of vibrant culture, nature, and hospitality.
