Joe Biden Undergoes Surgery to Remove Skin Cancer
Joe Biden is on the mend.
The former President is doing well after undergoing a procedure known as Mohs surgery to remove skin cancer from his head, his spokesperson told NBC News Sept 4.
Though the spokesperson did not clarify when the 82-year-old received the procedure—which is used to treat basal cell carcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas, the two most common types of skin cancer, according to SkinCancer.org—he had a visible incision on his head during an outing in Delaware Aug. 22.
Biden also had a cancerous skin lesion removed from his chest in 2023 following a routine physical exam.
“As expected, the biopsy confirmed that the small lesion was basal cell carcinoma. All cancerous tissue was successfully removed," the former President’s physician Kevin O'Connor said in a memo at the time, per NBC News. "No further treatment is required."
Beyond skin cancer, Biden revealed in May that he is currently battling an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones.
"Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms," the politician’s office shared in an announcement, obtained by NBC News. "While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management. The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians."
Following the announcement, Biden shared how both he and his wife Dr. Jill Biden reacted to the health update.
"Cancer touches us all," he wrote on Instagram at the time. "Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support."

The two-time Oscar winner underwent successful treatment for cancer, and his rep confirmed to E! News that doctors deemed Hoffman "surgically cured."
