Channing Tatum opens up about his dramatic weight loss

Channing Tatum surprised with a radical physical transformation for his new film Roofman , where he plays Jeffrey Manchester, a real criminal who escaped from prison and lived hidden for months in a Toys R Us store.

The actor revealed he lost almost 40 pounds after gaining weight for his previous role in Josephine. " Jeff is a very thin guy , not as big as me. I think he's tall, but he's very wiry," he explained in an interview with Variety.

Tatum said that after reaching 240 pounds to play Damien in Josephine, his goal was to get down to 185. However, the demands of filming pushed him further: "Once I was actually in the middle of filming, I kept going down to 172. "

The transformation caused concern on set . According to director Derek Cianfrance, assistant director Mariela Comitini warned the actor that he should stop losing weight . "She was like, 'That's it. Get him a steak right now,'" Tatum recalled, admitting that she shared the concern: "I think you're right. This is weird."

  • The actor confessed that the experience left a profound mark on him : "I looked at myself and I felt empty. The film involved a lot of solitude for me, a true meditation on wanting to be complete... That feeling of emptiness is fatal after a while."
