This is how the new Health app works to help you better understand the medications you take.

The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products ( AEMPS ) recently launched MeQA, a pioneering tool based on artificial intelligence that allows users to perform natural language queries on medicines for human use, obtaining immediate responses based on official information extracted from product information leaflets.

MeQA is designed to improve the accessibility of technical content to the general public and allows questions to be formulated in non-technical language, integrating official information and making it accessible to users. Among other features, it allows users to check compatibility with the simultaneous use of different medications or resolve questions about their use, dosage, and possible side effects.

This system represents a significant advance in transparency and access to quality health information, allowing citizens to better understand what medications they take, why they take them, and how to take them.

According to Pedro Carrascal , general manager of the Patient Organizations Platform, "the emergence of tools like MeQA opens the door to new possibilities in the field of personalized care because it could raise the possibility of connecting these systems with the patient's electronic medical record , allowing virtual assistants to offer automated and personalized recommendations."

The development of MeQA is part of a service contract promoted by the AEMPS (Spanish Agency for the Promotion of Natural Language Processing) (NLP) systems and includes, among other things, the query of prospects using natural language technologies and the systematization of the data loading process in the BIFAP system .

With this initiative, the AEMPS reaffirms its commitment to technological innovation in the service of public health, promoting a tool that facilitates access to information on medications for both healthcare professionals and the public.
