Coparmex Coahuila calls for strengthening the rule of law in the face of the USMCA review

After the US Chamber of Commerce expressed its concerns during the consultations for the review of the USMCA, the president of Coparmex Coahuila Sureste, Alfredo López Villarreal, pointed out that Mexico should take advantage of this process to send the world a clear message of trust, compliance and openness.
According to the US Chamber of Commerce, the treaty should remain a tripartite and tariff-free agreement; however, they expressed concerns that Mexico is not fully compliant on some issues, including legal and regulatory independence, investment certainty, and, in energy matters, preferential treatment for Pemex and CFE, while regulators have lost autonomy.

In this regard, López Villarreal agreed on the importance of preserving the USMCA as a trilateral, modern agreement free of trade barriers, as it has been a pillar of economic growth and the attraction of investments in Mexico, the United States and Canada.

He also acknowledged the concerns expressed by the US Chamber of Commerce regarding legal independence, regulatory certainty, and competitive conditions in the energy sector . These factors, he said, are essential to maintaining investor confidence and ensuring a level playing field among the three countries.
