Osmar Olvera, the Mexican diver who won the world gold medal in Singapore.

Mexican Osmar Olvera finally managed to break down the Chinese wall and become the new 3-meter springboard world champion, after winning the gold medal in Singapore on Friday with a spectacular score of 529.55 points.
Olvera had to be almost perfect to defeat Yuan Cao, Olympic champion in Rio 2016, and Zongyuan Wang, who was looking to win his fourth consecutive world title in the Asian city.
Wang had become an insurmountable obstacle for the Mexican jumper, who had to settle for the silver medal at the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka and the bronze at the World Championships held last year in Doha.
The same position to which Osmar Olvera, 21, was relegated at the Paris Olympic Games, where the American finished behind Siyi Xie, absent from these Championships, and Zongyuan Wang.
But this time, the Mexican, who had three silver medals in Singapore, wasn't willing to resign himself to another second place behind the Chinese jumpers.
Just like his first attempt, a triple somersault and half-in, which allowed Olvera to take the lead in the standings, although tied with Wang, with a total of 91.80 points.
A lead that Olvera couldn't defend in his next three dives, in which the Mexican, somewhat imprecise in his water entries, found himself relegated to third place.
However, the Mexico City native was not the only one who failed, and the errors of Zongyuan Wang and Yuan Cao in the fifth round opened a door to hope that Osmar Olvera did not waste.
With a sensational quadruple and a half jump in front, which earned him a score of 102.60 points, the highest of the entire final, the Mexican jumper faced his final jump in first place in the standings with a half-point advantage - 0.55 - over China's Cao.
A lead that Olvera not only defended, but further extended with a superb double and a half forward somersault with three twists, which boosted the Mexican to 529.55 points.
Almost seven points more -6.85- than the Chinese Yuan Cao, who had to settle for the silver medal with a score of 522.70 points, and fourteen more than Zongyuan Wang, the big loser, who occupied the third step of the podium with a total of 515.55 points.
