China will decide TikTok's fate in the United States; Trump confirms potential buyer

US President Donald Trump announced Sunday that there is already a buyer for the social network TikTok , although he will reveal his identity in two weeks, if the Chinese government approves the operation.

According to information from Europa Press , during an interview with Fox News, Trump declared: We have a buyer for TikTok,” and although he did not give further details, he mentioned that it is a conglomerate of people “with a lot of money.”

China will have to approve TikTok's buyer in the US.

He added that the operation still requires the approval of Chinese President Xi Jinping : “We will probably need China to approve it, but I think Xi will give his permission , he said.

The sale of TikTok follows a law passed by the former Biden administration, which prohibited the platform from operating in the United States unless its parent company, Bytedance, sold its North American operations by January 19.

This measure was part of concerns about national security and the use of personal data by Chinese companies. However, Trump postponed that deadline after returning to the presidency.

The first postponement occurred on January 20, the day of his inauguration, and a second was announced on April 4, extending the deadline for an additional 75 days to allow for negotiations with the Chinese company.

With this new statement, Trump reinforces his stance on limiting the presence of Chinese technology companies in the United States , while seeking to close a deal that meets the security and digital sovereignty demands his administration has championed.

So far, Bytedance has not made any official statements regarding the alleged sale, and both the name of the buyer and the Chinese government's final position are expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks .
