Call for replacement exceeds expectations in Yucatán

The vehicle license plate replacement program in Yucatán has seen successful progress in its first month of implementation, with more than 65,000 applications completed.
The State Government's Secretariat of Administration and Finance (SAF) reported that private vehicles and motorcycles have been the types that have most benefited from this innovative process, designed to be agile and efficient.
Juan Sánchez Álvarez, head of the SAF, explained that this citizen response has not only complied with the legal requirement for license plate renewal by 2025, but has also exceeded budgetary expectations.
"The public has responded in an exemplary manner, which has allowed us to achieve the revenue we had planned to date," said Sánchez Álvarez.
He also highlighted that, thanks to the tax incentives authorized by Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena, Yucatecans have already saved more than 70 million pesos so far in the process.
Before the start of the re-registration process, between January and May, the "Get Up to Date" program was implemented, which sought to update the state vehicle registry.
This initiative offered 100% discounts on fees for importing foreign vehicles and changing ownership, as well as waivers of fines and surcharges.
Sánchez Álvarez detailed that 58,000 people took advantage of these benefits, strengthening the vehicle registry and improving the response capacity and security of the authorities.
The success of the current license plate replacement process is also attributed to the implementation of a new computer system using artificial intelligence. This technology allows citizens to pre-load and validate their documents from home, eliminating the need to present physical copies at the registration desks.
The Ministry of Public Security (SSP) has set up six modules in Mérida and six in the state's interior to facilitate the process.
"The system has operated stably and uninterruptedly, allowing more than 85% of payments to be made online, making the process easier and faster," the official added, highlighting that a process that previously took hours is now completed in minutes.
The SAF has also established a prioritization and support policy for older adults who attend the modules, ensuring a simple process for everyone.
