Firefighters from the Principality of Asturias Emergency Service (SEPA) have been searching since early Monday morning for a fisherman who disappeared on Sunday afternoon and evening after falling into the sea in the Cabo Negro area, on Xagó beach, in the municipality of Gozón, according to SEPA.
The search began on Sunday afternoon and evening after the 112 Asturias Emergency Coordination Center received a call at 8:37 p.m. indicating that they had seen a fisherman fall into the sea after being swept away by a storm surge.
SEPA's 112 Unit mobilized the Rescue Group with a medicalized helicopter , and Maritime Rescue in Gijón , which sent the Rigel vessel to the area. At the same time, the municipality's beach rescue coordinator was contacted to see if they had any resources available in the area.
Firefighters from the SEPA fire station in Avilés were mobilized by land, and later joined by firefighters from the La Morgal fire station and the central zone chief. As per protocol, the Civil Guard was notified and sent patrols to the area.
