A man arrested for possession and distribution of child pornography online in Palma.

National Police officers have arrested a man of Spanish origin in Palma, allegedly responsible for the crime of corruption of minors , for possession of audiovisual material, photos, and videos of child pornography.

In a press release, the National Police reported that the investigation stemmed from a request for police collaboration from the Economic Crime and Technological Crimes Group of the National Police in Palma, by the Central Cybercrime Unit, Group II for the Protection of Minors of the General Judicial Police Station in Madrid, as a result of the investigation being conducted by that group into the possession and distribution of child sexual exploitation/abuse material over the Internet.

Through cyberpatrol across networks, officers learned of the criminal offense. Specifically, they discovered it was being committed on peer-to-peer file-sharing platforms. These allow users anywhere in the world to connect and share virtually any type of file, including videos, images, music, programs, or documents.

After analyzing all the information, the police confirmed the alleged perpetrator was a man who uploaded the pedophile files. However, it was also confirmed that he had made numerous downloads over several months. The investigation determined that there were 32 folders of pedophile files, although most had been deleted by the alleged cybercriminal. However, officers from the National Police's Technological Crimes Group in Palma are continuing to analyze the seized devices to fully recover the files.
