The 14-year-old boy who suffered a severe blow to the head while bathing in the Bernesga River in the town of La Seca de Alba (León) died this Sunday as a result of his serious injuries , according to the Cuadros Town Council, which includes the town where the incident occurred.

In an order issued by the mayor, three days of official mourning have been declared for the "tragic accident" and "as a reflection of the shock and grief of the residents," the City Council stated in the text. It also sends its "condolences" to the child's family and conveys "encouragement and strength" to the residents of the municipality "in this difficult time."

The tragic incident occurred this Saturday at around six o'clock in the evening when the boy was bathing in the Bernesga River as it passes through La Seca de Alba. A call to 112 requested assistance for a minor who had been rendered unconscious after hitting his head.

The incident occurred in a difficult-to-access area at kilometer 10 of the LE-4514 highway, on the outskirts of La Seca, heading toward Cascantes de Alba, in Cuadros (León), according to emergency services.

1-1-2 notified the León Civil Guard (COS) of this incident, the León Fire Department, the emergency coordination center of the Junta de Castilla y León, from which the rescue and salvage helicopter was dispatched, and the Sacyl Health Emergencies, which also sent a medical helicopter and a basic life support ambulance.

At the scene, medical services treated the child, who was later transported by Emergency Medical Services helicopter to León Hospital . He finally died there this Sunday as a result of his serious injuries.

The Reino de León basketball team, where the young man played, expressed its deepest regret and expressed its full support to the deceased's family, friends, and teammates. The Castilla y León Basketball Federation also expressed its condolences.
