The German women's national team has reached the Nations League final.

DFB director Nia Künzer embraced national coach Christian Wück after the final whistle in Caen, northern France. "I think we can be incredibly proud. Well, I am – and I'm really happy for the coaching staff and the girls," said the World Cup winner after the German women's football team reached the Nations League final.
Four days after their 1-0 victory in the first leg of the semi-final in Düsseldorf against France, the German women's national team fought to a 2-2 (1-1) draw in a wild game in Normandy.
In front of more than 18,000 loud spectators at the Stade Michel-d'Ornano, Frankfurt's Nicole Anyomi (12th minute) and - as in the first leg - FC Bayern striker Klara Bühl (50th minute) scored for the German women's national team.
Melvine Malard (3rd minute) gave the French an early lead. Clara Mateo's late goal (89th minute) meant that Christian Wück's team had to sweat it out in the final stages.
Wück would have preferred a more composed style of play."The development the team has made since October 2024 is exactly what I had hoped for. That we are now in the final is a great success for us," said the visibly relieved national coach, who had been wildly gesturing to cheer on his team in the last few minutes.
Wück, however, lamented the risky playing style after the fast-paced match, particularly given the 2-1 lead. "That's when the little kid in you comes out, where everyone just wants to play football, where everyone just wants to enjoy the atmosphere," said the 52-year-old. "At this level, of course, that can easily backfire."

That this didn't happen was also due to goalkeeper Stina Johannes, who deputized for the injured Ann-Katrin Berger and delivered a strong performance. The 25-year-old from VfL Wolfsburg made a strong case for herself should Berger decide not to continue her DFB career beyond this year.
"She seized her opportunity. She delivered two games at a very, very high level, which were not easy – in terms of pressure and the quality of the opposing team," said Wück.
Now against the world champions from SpainThe German women's national team will now face Spain in the Nations League final – the first leg on November 28th in Kaiserslautern and the second leg on December 2nd at Atletico Madrid's Estadio Metropolitano. The German women lost to the world champions 1-0 after extra time in the European Championship semi-final in Switzerland in July.
"We're not going into the game with a heavy heart or a heavy burden. We're starting at 0-0," said sporting director Künzer. "I think we should have legitimate hopes." For the German women's national team, it's their first international final since losing the 2022 European Championship final in England. Before that, the German team won gold at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
"Yes, it's not a World Cup or a European Championship," admitted national coach Wück, referring to the Nations League. "But it is a final."
