Liverpool suffered another defeat against bogey team Crystal Palace, and the Reds have now lost six of their last seven matches. Nick Woltemade, however, scored again.

Another blow for crisis-ridden Liverpool : The English champions, fielding a second-string side without Florian Wirtz and record signing Alexander Isak, were knocked out of the League Cup by their bogey team Crystal Palace. The 0-3 (0-2) defeat was their third loss this season against the FA Cup winners and their sixth defeat in the last seven competitive matches.

The other favorites, meanwhile, showed no weakness: Nick Woltemade once again demonstrated his excellent form, leading Newcastle United into the quarterfinals. The England striker scored the decisive goal in the 50th minute with a header in a deserved 2-0 (1-0) victory over Tottenham Hotspur. Manchester City beat Championship side Swansea City 3-1 (1-1), while Chelsea battled their way to a 4-3 (3-0) win against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Arsenal's rising star Max Dowman celebrated a successful and historic debut. Following the 2-0 (0-0) victory against Fabian Hürzeler's Brighton and Hove Albion, the 15-year-old is now the youngest player ever to start a competitive match for the Gunners.

In Liverpool, manager Arne Slot opted to rest several key players despite recent poor results. Besides Wirtz, Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Hugo Ekitiké were also not in the squad. Ismaila Sarr (41st/45th minute) and Yéremy Pino (88th minute) decided the match with their goals – Liverpool's Amaro Nallo received a red card for a professional foul. Crystal Palace, Oliver Glasner's team, had already defeated the Reds in the Community Shield and in the Premier League in September.
