Neither Tadej Pogacar nor Jonas Vingegaard provided the spectacle on the 10th stage, with its 4,500 meters of elevation gain. The big favorites for the overall victory ceded the stage to the breakaway rider on the French national holiday.
As such, British Giro winner Simon Yates triumphed solo at the first mountain finish of this Tour. Ben Healy crossed the finish line in third place, 4:20 minutes ahead of Pogacar, thus overtaking the Slovenian world champion at the top of the overall standings. The Irishman, who had already won stage 6 solo, now leads Pogacar by 29 seconds before the first rest day in Toulouse.
The 112th Tour de France continues on Wednesday with the 11th stage, covering 156.8 km around Toulouse. A Category 3 mountain classification might prove too difficult for the sprinters. Starting Thursday, the Pyrenees await.
