Ulli Potofski died this week at the age of 73. He had a dream for his funeral. But he still lacks the money.

Longtime sports reporter Ulli Potofski has died at the age of 73. The Gelsenkirchen native commentated on matches and worked as a pitchside reporter for pay TV. Even at over 70, Potofski was still involved in day-to-day business.

But now it's emerged that he didn't have much left at the end of his life. As "Bild" reports, the presenter died "impoverished." His wish was to be buried in the "Schalker Fan-Feld" (Schalker Fan Field). He and his family recently lacked the means to do so . Now the "Schalker Markt" foundation is raising money for the funeral of the popular television personality.

According to "Bild," the Schalke fan base itself is also participating in the campaign and has promised a special price for the burial. According to this, the bereaved will pay €2,800 for an urn grave instead of the usual €7,000.

FC Schalke 04 and the Bundesliga were Ulli Potofski's life . "With pioneering spirit, he helped shape modern football reporting, and as a Schalke fan, he mastered the fine line between media neutrality and a Royal Blue cause," his beloved club Schalke wrote in a statement following his death. The Gelsenkirchen club will "always honor Potofski's memory," it added.
