Contract until 2030: Bayer Leverkusen signs Malik Tillman as Wirtz replacement

Bayer Leverkusen has completed the transfer of Malik Tillman. The Nuremberg native is set to follow in big footsteps.

According to media reports, Leverkusen will pay PSV Eindhoven €35 million for the US international, making Tillman Leverkusen's record transfer. He signed a contract until 2030.

"With Malik Tillman, we have gained another strong and very dangerous attacking force. He can play in both the number 10 and the number 8 positions in midfield. Malik is an absolute top signing for us," said Leverkusen's sporting director Simon Rolfes, adding: "His style is an excellent fit for Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Our attacking game will receive a whole new boost thanks to Malik's dynamism."

Trained at Bayern Munich

The 23-year-old midfielder, who trained at Bayern Munich and made seven appearances for the record champions, is expected to fill the huge shoes of Florian Wirtz at Leverkusen. The German international left Bayer for Liverpool FC this summer.

"This club has always played great football. But in the last four or five years, Leverkusen has grown enormously and become interesting to many players across Europe. I want to win something. That was my goal in Glasgow and in Eindhoven, and it remains my goal here," said Tillman.

Successful in Eindhoven

The Nuremberg native won the Dutch championship with Eindhoven in the past two seasons and recently impressed with the US team in the Gold Cup, where the USA lost the final to Mexico (1:2). Last season, Tillman scored 16 goals and provided five assists in 34 competitive matches.

Bayer had previously invested around €30 million in U21 European champion Jarell Quansah from Liverpool FC. Other signings include goalkeeper Mark Flekken (Brentford FC), defenders Abdoulaye Faye (BK Häcken) and Axel Tape (Paris St. Germain U19), midfielder Ibrahim Maza from Hertha BSC, and young striker Christian Kofane (Albacete Balompié).
