Trump opponent reveals new nickname for JD Vance

California Governor Gavin Newsom is creating derisive nicknames for political opponents and imitating Donald Trump's social media style. His latest target: Vice President J.D. Vance.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has intensified his tactics of mocking prominent political figures on social media. The latest target of his posts is Vice President J.D. Vance, whom Newsom has nicknamed "Just Dance Vance."
This came in response to Vance's recent visit to Indianapolis, the capital of the state of Indiana, where Republicans are seeking to change the drawing of electoral districts in their favor ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. According to Newsweek, this is part of an overarching strategy promoted by the Trump administration, including in Texas, where Democratic lawmakers fled a similar vote .
Newsom and President Donald Trump have been in a worsening conflict since the summer, when Trump deployed thousands of National Guard troops and hundreds of Marines to Los Angeles, despite Newsom's objections. Trump justified this as a necessary response to protests against his mass deportation policy.

Newsom, however, called this action the fulfillment of "a crazy fantasy of a dictatorial president" and has sued the president. A court decision is still pending.
Newsweek points out that the use of nicknames like "Just Dance Vance" is just one of many ways Newsom is copying Trump's familiar social media style. This includes writing in all caps and embellishing supposed accomplishments. While Trump often refers to Newsom as "Newscum" in his posts, Newsom has also come up with derisive names for Trump, including "Tiny hands."
Newsom promised not to redraw California's boundaries if Republicans abandon their plan. The strategy aims to neutralize these states' efforts.
