France's head of government wants to save 44 billion euros

France must act quickly to avoid being "crushed" by its debt burden, said French Prime Minister François Bayrou (74) at the presentation of the €40 billion austerity package in Paris on Tuesday. He drew a comparison to the debt crisis in Greece more than a decade ago. "Everyone will have to contribute," Bayrou said. "It's late, but there's still time."
