EU Commission wants to increase budget to 2 trillion euros

In addition to additional funding for anti- Russian armaments, the Commission also proposes, according to drafts, to allocate fewer funds in fixed budgets – in order to be able to act and react in a rapidly evolving global environment, as it says. There will also be fewer specific spending programs overall. While there are currently separate budgets for EU agricultural policy and structural funding for regions, these items will in future be financed from a single large fund.
According to the Commission's plan, each EU member state should draw up a so-called National Reform and Investment Plan (NRP) for the funds from the fund. In this plan, the country would outline which reforms and investments it intends to implement between 2028 and 2034 and what it intends to use EU funds for. Regional authorities, for example, would also be involved in drawing up the plan.
