Deutsche Bahn has repaired the damage to the line between Duisburg and Düsseldorf.

Around 30 specialists worked into the night to replace five damaged cables, each 20 meters long, the railway announced on Saturday. Trains have been running regularly again since early this morning, after test runs confirmed the go-ahead. However, isolated delays may still occur. An arson attack on DB infrastructure facilities made the repairs necessary.

The damage at two different locations led to significant disruptions to long-distance and regional traffic. Hundreds of trains were affected, and many passengers had to endure diversions or premature departures. The impact was particularly felt by commuters and holidaymakers, for example, on their way to Düsseldorf Airport. The first damage was discovered on Thursday morning. During repair work overnight into Friday, employees discovered further damage. At the same time, authorities are investigating another cable fire near Webau in Saxony-Anhalt, which occurred on a coal freight line. Investigators suspect arson in this case, too.
