Company car check: Top politicians mostly drive climate-damaging cars

Five departments did not provide information about their ministers' official cars for security reasons. The same applies to Chancellor Friedrich Merz 's (69, CDU) car. At the state secretary level, seven ministries received a green card, two a yellow card, and seven a red card.
According to the DUH (German Association of German Electricians), of the 16 state governments, only Baden-Württemberg's Minister-President Winfried Kretschmann (77; Green Party) drives an electric car – and received a "green" card with emissions of 70 grams of CO₂ per kilometer; all others received a "red" card. Last in the rankings is Bavaria's Minister-President Markus Söder (58; CSU), with average CO₂ emissions of 292 grams per kilometer.
