FW-BN: 3rd follow-up report: Fire brigades from Bonn, Düsseldorf, Leverkusen, Königswinter and Ratingen on their way to forest fire operations in Spain
The third day of operations for the German Forest Fire Module took emergency personnel to the northern area of the forest fire, where the fire had been at its most intense in recent days. With temperatures around 30°C and strong sunshine, the task was to check the heated and burned ground for embers. Plumes of smoke in the undergrowth, indicating fires in and on the ground, guided the emergency personnel through what were at times steep, mountainous terrain. During the day, several thousand square meters of area were checked with hand tools and treated with hand tools and extinguishing water, exerting considerable physical effort. The tank fire engines deployed during the operation demonstrated their high operational value.
On Friday, it also became apparent that the forest fire had been largely extinguished, thus bringing the deployment of German emergency services to a close. While the emergency services were still fighting the fire, they began dismantling the field camp, which was largely completed by the evening.
In coordination with the Spanish authorities, the German forest fire module will be relocated to another location on Saturday morning to assist with a forest fire in the province of Castile and León. This will involve traveling a further 300 km. In the regions of Galicia and Castile and León, the forest fire situation is far from easing. Unlike the fire in Extremadura, the fires there continue to spread rapidly. Currently, the plan is to establish a field camp in the town of Puebla de Sanabria to fight the nearby fires from there.
The deployment of the German Forest Fire Module will continue to end as scheduled at the beginning of next week. Following this, the team will return to Germany.
