Pasta Chips: Simple recipe for the Tiktok food trend

From vegan bacon to princess-shaped cake to candied fruit: In addition to beauty, fashion, and sports videos, the video platform TikTok is constantly featuring extravagant food trends that inspire millions of users to try them out. And even for those with less time or desire to experiment, the world of social media always offers techniques that significantly elevate one's culinary skills, at least outwardly. For example, pasta regularly takes center stage – with the small but significant difference that it's now called baked feta or vodka pasta.
The followers of the latest movement are going one step further: They're no longer laboriously preparing their beloved pasta, but rather enjoying it as a crispy snack. Around 770 million posts can be found on TikTok under the hashtag #pastachips, and the number is growing. It's no wonder, since it only requires a small window of time and two ingredients: pasta and pesto.
Contrary to popular belief, the pasta fries aren't eaten raw or undercooked: Like traditional dishes, they're first cooked according to the package instructions. Then drain the water and toss the pasta with the pesto. For about 100 grams of pasta, use three to four heaped tablespoons of pesto. Farfalle or spiral pasta, for example, are good options.
Then, home cooks spread the pasta on a baking sheet, spaced far apart so they don't touch each other. Bake at around 200 degrees Celsius (400 degrees Fahrenheit) for about half an hour until they look nice and crispy. Et voilà: After a brief cooling period, the homemade pasta chips are ready. Serve with a delicious dip, such as guacamole or tzatziki.
To give this trendy snack a personal touch, pasta alternatives are a good option, such as pasta made from chickpea or lentil flour. Pesto is also substitutable—although in this case, there are more than two ingredients on the list. For example, it's possible to toss the pasta with a blend of herbs. Creative minds are also creating numerous original creations online, for example, with a mixture of oil, Parmesan cheese, and spices such as salt, pepper, paprika, or garlic powder.
These pasta fries are especially great as a quick snack for spontaneous visitors. True pros prepare them in even less than half an hour: the reason is the use of an air fryer. This helps make the chips even crispier. So, if you happen to own an air fryer, you can achieve the desired result in just ten to twelve minutes.
